Hitting the ground running.

May 1, 2008

We really enjoyed our slow April and having some time off from the hectic pace of releases that we’ve kept up since February of last year, and now we’re ready to kick back in with a bunch of great new releases scheduled for both the netlabel and commercial catalogs.

First up is Mercury Effect’s ‘Schizometric’ coming out on online music stores May 20th. Mercury Effect’s music is unique and beautiful, combining intricate glitched out programming and traditional accoustic sources.

Later this summer on the commercial XDR series we will be releasing brand new EPs from Sascha Mueller, Fabrics, m u t o, Phylum Sinter, Psonikadia, and ChemicalX. All of these artists are really stepping up to the plate and delivering fantastic material and we’re very excited to be able to make this music available. Additionally, the new ChemicalX EP is slated to include a remix by DnB maestro Psidream. More details will be coming shortly as we get closer to the release dates for each release.

On the netlabel XSN catalog we are lining up the releases for the next several months, and we’re currently working on putting together a release with an artist that is new to us who goes by the name Borderline. He produces solid DnB in a style similar to classic Matrix and Ed Rush.

A few Xynthetic folks will be traveling to DEMF in Detroit in May. And a a couple of our artists, Phylum Sinter and Fabrics, are tentatively scheduled to play at afterparties. We’re waiting for the details to come together, but we’ll post them when we have something concrete.

XSN019 - Datascraper “Remnant” is now available for download from its release page. Remnant is the transition release as Portland / PDX (n5MD, Component, en:peg) clears out its last transmission and transforms into the new Datascraper project. We’re very proud that Datascraper chose to release this EP through Xynthetic and that we could be part of this metamorphosis. The EP is made up of all new material and grooves on the noisier side of what we do around here. Check it.

XSN017 - Lucid Reflections - Bevroren Maanden now available

January 8, 2008

Our newest release is upon us. Lucid Reflections, brings us his 6 track ep ‘Bevroren Maanden’. Hailing from the Netherlands, Lucid Reflections brings us some nice, dreamy and glitched out ambient. Bevroren Maanden sounds like a soundtrack for an as-of-yet unmade film; bringing beatiful organic elements in and out of the harder edge of minimal beats and clicks. “Bevroren Maanden” is Dutch for “Frozen Months,” and this release is completely influenced by the winter months. Elegant atmospheres and intricate rhythms combine into chilly, beautiful soundscapes.

From Unity to Segmentation mini-site

December 17, 2007

We’ve launched a mini-site for Phylum Sinter’s upcoming release “From Unity to Segmentation” at: http://www.xynthetic.com/segmentation/

C.Todd will be updating the mini-site / blog himself with news, progress, and thoughts related to his upcoming release as Phylum Sinter entitled “From Unity to Segmentation” which will be released as XDR006 on our digital retail line (available through Beatport, iTunes, etc…).

In C.Todd’s own words:
So what’s next? I want to share with you bits of the album, some things i’ve done in the process, some pictures of my studio… everything that will hype the whole thing and maybe give a little bit of myself that you might relate to in the process. Enhancing my capacity to exchange ideas with you, to have some input during the writing process of the album is one of my personal goals for this blog.

This will provide an insite into the creative process that Phylum Sinter goes through, as well as clips and other teasers related to the release. The release date for “From Unity to Segmentation” is yet to be determined, so you can come along for the ride.

Shades of Techno and DJ servicing.

December 11, 2007

m u t o’s Berlin EP has been very well received and it’s one of the fastest downloaded releases we’ve done yet. m u t o will also be working on a release for our commercial XDR series, and we’re really looking forward to bringing that to you.

In other XDR news, we’ve posted 30 second preview clips for the next two XDR releases, both of which are from artists new to Xynthetic. XDR008 is ‘Iceworks’ by Danzai, this EP is made up of atmospheric Dub Techno and would be at home on the dancefloor or at a lounge. XDR009 is ‘How It Is’ by Countered, featuring three mixes of the aggressive dancefloor munition “How It Is” along with 2 b-sides. Clips for both releases are on their respective pages, so go check ‘em out and let us know what you think. They’ll be hitting the streets around February or March.

We are also preparing a DJ service for Xynthetic, aimed at getting promos of our XDR releases to DJs (radio, party, club, whatever) and podcasters. We will be setting up a formal request form for this at some point, but for now, if you’re a DJ who would be interested in getting XDR releases about 90 days before they’re available on the retail sites, please contact us at info@xynthetic.com and tell us a little bit about yourself, where you spin, what kind of music you focus on… if you’re a podcaster, what your show is and all that kind of good stuff.

Thanks again for everyone’s support out there,
Josh and Graeme

Xyn Archives - end of 2007 bonus material - from Josh Garrett

These 93 tracks gather early and unreleased material from my Xyn project, as well as some side material and curiosities. The dates of the production on these tracks range from 1993 to 2004, with the bulk of the collection being from 1997.

Vol 1 1993 - 1996 - (140 MB) includes the Blue God project with Rob Galbraith (founder of Component Records), the unreleased Smart Records 12" entitled 'Lapse Wire,' as well as some very early Xyn material created with very limited resources. Some of the original versions of these tracks were sketched out with only a Yamaha DX-7 (original style) and a very basic drum synth, the Simmon SDS-9. My studio grew a lot during this period, I added a Korg 05r/w, Novation BassStation Rack, Roland R-8 with Dance card, 2 Alpha Junos and a PG-300.

Vol 2 1997 - (292 MB) 1997 was a very busy year for me in terms of producing music. My first 12" was released on Glue Records and I was beginning to attract interest from a variety of labels. I also moved to Albuquerque, NM where I didn't know many people and my job wasn't very demanding, so I had a lot of time to concentrate on music. This was also a period of transition and I wasn't entirely satisfied with my gear... a lot of time was spent experimenting, but not necessarily coming up with the kind of tracks I wanted to do. I added a Roland S-550 and a Yamaha SU10 during this time.

Vol 3 1998 - 2004 - (210 MB) in 1998 I moved back to Michigan and was finding that the experimentation in New Mexico and some changes in my gear was paying off... I was coming up with tracks I was happier with. My studio became based around an Akai S3000xl and a Roland JP-8000. In 1999 Rob formed Component and I came on to help him with the graphics and a few odds and ends. A few of the 1997 tracks and a bunch of the 1998 and 1999 tracks ended up being released on 2001's "Subdermal" on Component. The material after 2000 is mostly abortive releases for Component, or stuff that didn't quite gel up. In 2004 I transitioned to a software based studio, which is a logical place to end this collection. It's sort of the end of the main Xyn period as I began to transition into getting Xynthetic started... which happened with a lot of material from 2006. Most of the material from 2004 and 2005 was released on "Output Square" with Component and "A Strangely Mirrored World" on en:peg.

I just thought I'd make this stuff available since it's been sitting around on DATs and CDs for years, and there are some decent tracks in this mess... as well as a few really wacky ones. It's a huge amount of material, we know, but we don't expect anyone to wade through all of it.

Thanks for supporting us through 2007,

Josh
